Improvisation Technique in Performance Practice Workshop

2015, January 16, @ 4:00 pm - 2015, January 18, @ 5:00 pm UTC+0

$15 – $65

This workshop touches on the basic modalities of improvisation—exploring space, time, solos and pairings,  moving from impulse vs. moving from memory or imagination.

We will approach these techniques with new eyes and break down step by step the ways we create and shape the space.

This workshop is catered towards dancers new to improvisation or seasoned improvisers, who would like to check in and learn a different style of improvisation.

Fri. Jan. 16th at Mascher Space 155 Cecil B. Moore Ave.
4pm – 7pm
We will discuss space and how to compose it. We will do scores addressing different ways to approach the composition of space.

Jan. 17th at Fidget Space, 1714 North Mascher Street. (it’s around the corner from Mascher Space)
9am – 12noon and 1 – 4pm
First session we will focus on creating ensemble scores into duets. Second session we will explore different ways approaching duets.

January 18th at Mascher
9am – 12noon and 1 – 4pm
Both sessions we will work in performing solos and particularly on performing presence and Deborah Hay’s approach of Ready Fire Aim. Most importantly will finish with Performing Solo Improvisation without a score.  If you are interested in this work, highly recommend you come for the full day or just the first session as it would be confusing to join at the end.
Zornitsa first experience in dance was contact improvisation. After that she has studied with many different improvisation teachers, some of which are Deborah Hay, Danny Lepkoff, Michelle Boule, Miguel Gutierrez,  Meg Stuart, Ishmael Houston Jones and others.

Her biggest influence is her work with Susan Sgorbatti, who developed  Emergent Improvisation Project .  While dancing with Emergent Improvisation Project  Zornitsa was featured on the cover of “Composing While Dancing” book by Melinda Buckwalter.
