Move Dance Think Fest – The Significance of Everything a way into presence
May 2, 2015 - May 3, 2015$10 – $65
Jacelyn Biondo, Kristen Shahverdian and Zornitsa Stoyanova curate The Significance of Everything: A Way Into Presence; the first installment of Move Dance Think Fest, a weekend festival bringing choreographers and thinkers together to research and delve deep into presence in performance.
On May 2nd and 3rd, 2015, Biondo, Shahverdian and Stoyanova curate, create and organize a weekend festival of two workshops, three performances, a lecture, a movie screening, and dinner with led conversation. The goal of the festival is to offer opportunity for artists and audiences to engage deeply with work concerning presence in performance. Artists showing work are Nicole Bindler, Danielle Currica, Germaine Ingram and Jumatatu Poe. David Brick will offer a lecture on presence and Bindler and Poe will each teach a workshop. The festival also includes artist pairings, where two of the artists are facilitated in exploring each other’s work – this section is not open to the public. Also four other resident artists will be invited to attend and serve as leaders in creating and continuing conversation.

About the concept behind the festival:
Jacelyn Biondo, Kristen Shahverdian and Zornitsa Stoyanova have been thinking a lot about presence and its relation to performance as of late. Kristen thinks of presence as a place of losing oneself and of being incredibly aware of oneself. She says it is the place where the space between audience and performer has volume and electricity. Zornitsa is particularly interested in presence during interaction with the audience; she calls that the social aspect of presence during performance. Jacelyn finds presence to be a consuming holding environment. She love that presence can demand things, both beautiful and uncomfortable, of observers. The three agree that presence plays a significant role in performance and want to spend a weekend exploring it with like-minded artists. www.movedancethink.org
