BAZA Screens Dance Films

Neine — Giorgia Ponticello

Italy | 1:49 min.

An Elevator — Paulinho Caruso – Brazil | 7:13 min.

Zero Feet Zero Inches — Timothy James Nohe – USA | 3:04 min.

Everyone Left — Abby Warrilow & Lewis Gourlay – United Kingdom | 4:00 min.

POOL — Nicole Pfister / Lisa Lareida & Regula Mahler – Switzerland | 4:42 min.

The _____ Between Us — Maayan Reiter – Germany | 9:30 min.

"CREATURE — Nevena Nikolova & Petar Gerzilov, Choreography: Marion Darova – Bulgaria | 7:25 min."

NOUAGE — FU LE & Magalie Lanriot – France / Portugal / USA | 9:51 min.

AZUL — Pablo Diconca – Canada | 6:00 min.

"Fakers Club: The Lost and Found Episodes — Maylis Sanchez & Stephanie Miracle – USA / France | 7:59 min."

Elsewhere — Zornitsa Stoyanova – Bulgaria / USA | approx. 4 min.

Hristo Zhelev – Bulgaria | 3:08 min.

“One does not become enlightened by imagining

figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”

C. G. Jung

All I want for Christmas is you".

"Edition 02: Choreographing the Frame / ХОРЕОГРАФИЯ НА КАДЪРА"

September 18, 18:00

BAZA Space, Sofia

Donation based

BAZA Screens Dance Films continues with its second edition — Choreographing of the Frame — an evening of 12 short dance and experimental films from Bulgaria and around the world.

This selection focuses on the relationship between movement, dance and camera. How can a film be dance-based and choreographed even without dance itself? The selected films use a wide range of cinematic techniques, cutting, assembling and transforming the body, time and space into movement with its own dynamic. You will see experimental glitch techniques, beautiful flying bodies in slow motion, videos filmed underwater, dancers in an elevator, and dancers moving through open fields.

12 short films that consider the frame not simply as a place where dance happens, but as part of the choreography itself.

FILMS

Neine — Giorgia Ponticello – Italy | 1:49 min.

A woman moves through vulnerability and transformation, guided by three figures of solace. The body becomes a space for care, awakening and reconciliation.

An Elevator — Paulinho Caruso – Brazil | 7:13 min.

Stuck inside a malfunctioning elevator, a woman begins to dance with her own reflection to overcome boredom. A playful exploration of movement within an extremely confined space.

Zero Feet Zero Inches — Timothy James Nohe – USA | 3:04 min.

An experimental datamosh video combining archival footage of Variations V by John Cage and the Merce Cunningham Company with NASA Apollo imagery. Historic images of dance and space are digitally broken apart and recomposed into a constantly shifting visual choreography.

Everyone Left — Abby Warrilow & Lewis Gourlay – United Kingdom | 4:00 min.

Inside an abandoned warehouse, two dancers move through a dark, ecstatic duet hovering between memory, aggression, intimacy and dream. The film explores the traces that remain in a space after everyone else has left.

POOL — Nicole Pfister / Lisa Lareida & Regula Mahler – Switzerland | 4:42 min.

Two dancers move between dream and reality, gliding, falling, and appearing to float through an empty space. The film plays with the tension between elegance and absurdity, illusion and awakening.

The _____ Between Us — Maayan Reiter – Germany | 9:30 min.

Through contact improvisation and digital transformation, two bodies continuously reshape themselves and the way they perceive one another. The film reflects on how longing, fear, acceptance, resistance and curiosity affect the connections between us.

"CREATURE — Nevena Nikolova & Petar Gerzilov, Choreography: Marion Darova – Bulgaria | 7:25 min."

A visual and choreographic exploration of creation beyond the opposition between the monstrous and the divine. The body appears as something unstable — transformed and continually created anew.

NOUAGE — FU LE & Magalie Lanriot – France / Portugal / USA | 9:51 min.

Where land ends, and the sea begins, two bodies move through memory and shared mourning. Their intertwined gestures become both a bond and a passage toward release.

AZUL — Pablo Diconca – Canada | 6:00 min.

"An aquatic poem about absence, memory, and what remains after something has disappeared. Bodies and images suspended underwater ask: what becomes of tears when we cry underwater?"

"Fakers Club: The Lost and Found Episodes — Maylis Sanchez & Stephanie Miracle – USA / France | 7:59 min."

A playful dance-film mystery following detective Fanny Blink and a collection of suspicious characters through a small village in southern France. Movement, physical comedy and cinematic investigation collide in a world of kinetic chaos.

Elsewhere — Zornitsa Stoyanova – Bulgaria / USA | approx. 4 min.

Shot primarily on a mobile device over three years and two continents, Elsewhere is a fairy-tale-like escapism into the multiplicity of oneself and our surroundings.

Hristo Zhelev – Bulgaria | 3:08 min.

“One does not become enlightened by imagining

figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”

C. G. Jung

This short film/music video is a game of wonder and foolishness. An alternative version of ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’.

The program is 1 hour and 10 minutes, after which the audience is invited to stay for an informal and open conversation with the artists who are present.
