9:00AM CALIFORNIA | 12 NOON NYC | 6:00PM BERLIN | 7:00PM SOFIA
Description of class series:
Composing While Dancing series is for improvisers and anyone interested in expanding their skills on different techniques in composition and improvisation. This 5 class Zoom series presents improvisation through a lens of digital theatricality, always conscious of “the presence” of the dancer. Focusing on modalities outside of the more conventional compositional improvisation class, Zornitsa hopes to open more possibilities for instant composition helping you understand both the physical and the digital space, as well as delve deeper into your own interests and practice.
Each class will focus on:
April 13 – Working with space and better understanding the digital frame and how to use tricks to compose in that space. (Or composing/improvising for screendance)
April 14 – Morphing our bodies into recognizability, working with potential for meaning
April 18 – Using our face and body to evoke emotional states, using emotionality in improvisation
April 19 – Different ways of using language in improvisation
April 26 – Switching of states, qualities, emotions – noticing emergence in meaning
************Each class is $7-$20 sliding scale and the whole series is $35 – $100 sliding scale.************

Cover of the book “Composing While Dancing” by Melinda Buckwalter – a great book documenting many of Zornitsa Stoyanova’s teachers and influences as well as her work with Emergent Improvisation by Susan Sgrbati. The name of this class is the same as the book, as it relates to many of the essays and interviews published.
