"Description:"

The Trilateral Dance Artist Exchange is an artist-led cultural exchange residency that takes place in Budapest, Hungary; Philadelphia, USA and Sofia, Bulgaria. One artist from each city will be invited to participate in a 7-10 days residency scheduled at three different times over the span of one year. (i.e. Fall '23, Spring ‘24, Fall '24).

All three artists will be in the same city at the same time. The content of the residency will be designed in collaboration with the selected artists and the local presenters. There is freedom in the residencies, so it is understood that artists need not produce new work, but can share their ideas through informal and formal discussions, teaching, showings, and social interaction. They can tailor the residency to the environments of each city. It is anticipated that the residency artists will stay in communication throughout the year.

The Trilateral cultural exchange is a pilot project coming from the Bilateral Budapest/Philadelphia exchange.

"Eligibility:"

We are looking for dance artists/choreographers working with contemporary and new modalities of movement and performance. The artists need to reside and/or worked in the Philadelphia, Sofia, or Budapest regions for at least one year prior to their application. We are looking for artists that are open and interested in artistic and cultural exchange. Who want to have conversations about their own work, and are willing to share their knowledge and expertise of their local communities with the other artist residents. Not only “emerging” creatives will be encouraged to apply, but mid-career and mature artists as well, especially those who are eager to try new ideas.

A prerequisite is the ability to be present for the duration of the whole residency as well as a history of making your own dance and/or performance work.

All artists will travel together and for the duration of the residency, the artists who are at home base are expected to engage with the residency as well.

Selected artists will be requested to provide a written report after the end of the residency.

Each presenter will publish an open call for artists to apply from their city. Since BodyMeld is based both in Philadelphia and Sofia, Bulgaria. Philadelphia Dance Projects will do an open call for Philadelphia-based dance artists and BodyMeld will administer the open call for Sofia-based dance artists.

"****The working language of the residency is English."

"What is Offered:"

Each artist will be offered a stipend of $3000, paid in three installments over the residency. Costs of travel, housing, insurance, and ESTA/Visa will also be covered. Please, note that payments will be coming from Philadelphia Dance Projects in the USA. Artists may be responsible for taxes according to their local government. Some rehearsal space, as well as tickets to shows and travel to cultural sights, would be offered depending on the design of the residency.
